13 December 2010: Westlife's Shane Filan has more to his talents than scoring hit singles.
Off-stage, the singer has emerged as lead goal-scorer in his hometown's local businesses' Astro-Turf Soccer League. Striker Shane (30) has already notched up seven goals to put his family's Sligo Plumbing and Heating team top of the league, run by FAI Cup winners Sligo Rovers.
His team, unbeaten after eight games, already have a five-point lead over second, Hargadon's, which is drawn from one of the town's favourite pubs. Shane's side, which includes former Ireland under-age player Ryan Casey, are also in a cup semi-final this week and are favourites to clinch the title. He also plays alongside former Sligo Rovers players Declan Lynch and Phillip Gallagher and with Mark Brehony, an inter-county GAA player.

Golden-boot Shane said: "It's good craic. I'm getting there slowly but surely."
When his 18-month-old son Patrick Michael is old enough, Shane hopes to get him involved in sport.
But it is older sister Nicole (4) who is able to appreciate dad's sporting qualities -- she is already playing soccer.

Organiser Keith O'Dwyer said: "When the league started in September it was hard to know the standard we could have expected of the teams.  "But as the season has gone on, and we're nearly half-way through, Shane's side have been the dominant team."
