‘A dream come true’ is how Shane Filan described the news that he will be supporting Garth Brooks at two of his five concerts in Croke Park next month. The former Westlife singer was confirmed, along with Irish country star Nathan Carter, as the support acts on Brooks’ sold-out five night run in Dublin.

“I am delighted to be asked to support Garth Brooks in Ireland,” Shane said on his website when the news was announced last Wednesday evening. “I have been a life long fan and to perform on the same stage as him is a dream come true.”

The Sligoman will play on stage before Garth on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27. He will be playing in front of 82,000 fans on each night.

It is understood, Brooks approved both Filan’s and Carter’s support slots personally and Shane will be hoping the concerts will not only increase his fanbase, but boost tickets for his own solo concerts in Ireland this December.

The worldwide tour of his album “You And Me” has taken him all over Europe and to Asia, but it finishes back in Ireland with concerts in Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on Monday , December 1 and Dublin’s Olympia Theatre on Tuesday, December 2.

Tickets for both of those concerts go on sale from 9am tomorrow morning from Ticketmaster outlets, including Lieber Bookshop in O’Connell Street.
