Former Westlife singer turned solo artist Shane Filan has been lending his support to this year's BBC Children in Need Appeal in Northern Ireland.

Barra Best and Jo Scott will be the hosts in Northern Ireland for the appeal which will be broadcast on BBC One NI from 19:30 GMT.

Last year on the night, the Northern Ireland total was £732,333 contributing to an overall UK total of £32.6m.

The final total was £49.1m.

Filan was in Belfast on Thursday to perform his new single 'Right Here' which will be shown as part of a special one-hour programme on BBC One Northern Ireland this Saturday.

Taking time out from filming in the BBC's Blackstaff Studios, he said: "I am delighted to be back in Belfast supporting BBC Children in Need in Northern Ireland.

"Over the years I've seen some of the great work they do locally for children's and young people's projects, both big and small."

Sir Terry Wogan will miss Friday's fundraiser for "health reasons" - the first time he will not have hosted it since its 1980 launch.

BBC Children in Need spends the money raised by the appeal to make a positive change to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

It currently funds 197 projects to the value of over £8m, in every county across Northern Ireland.
